Welcome to San Jose, the Costa Rican capital! Once you’ve made the short journey from the airport to your accommodation, the rest of the day is yours. Get your exploring shoes on, hit the streets, and you’ll find a wealth of things to do in the city. Visit the National Museum for the lowdown on Costa Rican history, take a walking tour or simply dive into all that fabulous coffee and food. As night falls, you’ll also find a host of excellent bars and restaurants at your disposal, so pull up a chair and take in the vibes as you settle into Costa Rican life.
Wave goodbye to San Jose (for now) and prepare yourself for the Costa Rican wilderness. After breakfast, we’ll begin the transfer to the Orosi region, stopping off en route to visit the mighty Irazu Volcano. Standing at 4,332 meters, this is the highest active volcano in the country, and the walk there takes you through lush green countryside, multiple craters, and jaw-dropping vistas. After lunch, it’s time to take for a two-wheeled adventure! We’ll complete the rest of the journey to the Orosi Valley by mountain bike. The route is made up of lolloping hillsides, coffee plantations and winding paths, making it an excellent place to explore by cycling. Upon arrival, give those legs a good stretch and get some recuperation in — you’ll be back on the bike tomorrow!
We’re on the move again today, with a transfer to Turrialba straight after breakfast. After checking in at your accommodation, be sure to limber up and get set for another tour in the saddle. The Turrialba Valley is one of Costa Rica’s best-kept secrets, and here you’ll be riding in the shadow of the Turrialba Volcano, close to the canyons of Pacuare River. After refueling over lunch, swap wheels for boots as we head off to explore the beautiful landscape on foot. Alongside some dramatic scenery, there’ll be ample opportunity to see some of the local wildlife, with parrots, hawks and eagles regularly displaying across the valley. Phew! After today’s endeavors, a good night’s sleep is most definitely deserved!
Good morning! Fill up on breakfast before we take you out on another epic adventure you won’t forget! Today, we’re going to get up close and personal with the jungle that the meandering Pacuare River cuts through. You’ll be transported to the starting point of our hike and from there, we’ll traverse deep into the lush rainforest. Home to a spectacular roster of curious wildlife, you may see the likes of anteaters, howler monkeys, coatis, and countless bird species like toucans and parrots. It’s a paradise for animal lovers and birdwatchers! We’ll trek our way to our rustic campsite in El Nido that overlooks the river. Here, we’ll spend the night in the heart of nature, surrounded by the calls of cicadas and the whisper of the trees.
Rise and shine to the magnificent orchestra of the jungle! There’s no better way to awaken than to the sight and the sounds of the great outdoors. After a hearty breakfast at camp, our journey moves on with a whitewater rafting adventure on the Pacuare River. One of the world’s premium rafting spots, the rapids are graded III and IV and there’s no way of emerging from this glorious thrill with dry feet! The river eventually runs into the Caribbean Sea, winding its way through masses of dense forest, so be sure to keep an eye out for the monkeys and sloths that line the route. Once you’ve dried out, we’ll continue to the beautiful campsite of Finca Pacuarito, close to the coastline, where amidst tranquil surroundings you can dive into a beer or two and get set for another night beneath the stars.
Take some time to reflect on your adventure so far as we head back to San Jose, but keep your head-for-heights as we’ll be stopping off en route to take to the skies! Today’s ziplining tour makes for a perfect journey-break, and you’ll be flying above trees, canyons, rivers and waterfalls, taking a bird's-eye view of the lush green forest. With your adrenaline still pumping, we’ll continue to San Jose where you’ll enjoy one last night in the city. Park yourself outside a bar or restaurant and watch the world go by Costa Rican-style, or if you’re still feeling energetic, why not step into one of the city’s nightclubs and dance the night away?
This marks the end of your magnificent journey, but there’s still time for one last hearty breakfast and a long goodbye with your new-found friends. Shake off your San Jose party head and make your way to the airport. Now it’s time to upload all those epic photos, catch up with your journal and plan your next adventure!
