Cocoon yourself in the lush surroundings of the Arenal Volcano, one of Costa Rica’s best destinations to encounter the most incredible natural sights and geothermal secrets. Experience Arenal’s magic through the best activities: rejuvenate your body at the largest hot springs complex in the world, discover the cascading La Fortuna Waterfall, go off-roading around the base of the volcano, and go white water rafting down the Sarapiqui River!
Your first destination is San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Once you arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport, make your way to your accommodation in the city. Check into your rooms and take the time to unwind and relax. Spend the remainder of the day at your own leisure — feel free to explore your surroundings and celebrate your first day in Costa Rica. Tomorrow is the start of your epic adventure. We’ll be heading to the scenic town of La Fortuna, the gateway to the majestic Arenal Volcano and its lush wilderness.
Good morning! Today, you’ll be whisked away to your accommodation located in La Fortuna. As you get closer, you’ll be able to witness Costa Rica’s iconic cone-shaped Arenal Volcano in the distance, standing at a grand 5,480 feet tall. La Fortuna is the closest town to the volcano. After your long journey, rejuvenate your body with a healing dip in thermal waters! Make your own way to the famous Baldi Hot Springs (entrance fee included), the largest hot springs complex in the world. Drawing on the healing waters from the Arenal region, discover 25 different thermal pools here, surrounded by the inviting sounds of the tropical rainforest. Bathe under crystalline waterfalls, discover the largest sauna in the country, ride water slides, and relax in luxurious jacuzzis!
This morning, you have the perfect opportunity to visit the La Fortuna Waterfall Reserve. Here, we’ll discover the rainforest trail that leads to the stunning 210-foot waterfall. Heavy annual rainfall in the region ensures that the surroundings are constantly lush. As you descend downhill on the trail, you'll get a chance to admire the falls from the very bottom where a natural pool awaits. Here, you are welcome to swim in the natural freshwater of the La Fortuna River!
In the afternoon, you will be transferred to La Pradera Hotel to begin your ATV adventure. You’ll receive the necessary instruction and training on how to properly handle your vehicle. After some practice, we’ll head to a private farm and rumble through the beauty of Arenal’s impressive nature, surrounded by the thriving wilderness of trees, birds, and animals. We’ll make the journey all the way to a very high point at the base of the volcano — from here, we’ll be treated to sweeping views of the surrounding area and, of course, views of the grand volcano itself. We’ll have a drink and break here, then proceed with the rest of the adventure; we will drive to the Arenal River via the town of La Guaria. Once at the river, you can take a shower and rest for a while before we return to base.
Today, we’ll be heading back to San Jose, but not before one last thrilling adventure in the wild! On the way back, we’ll stop at the Sarapiqui River, where you’ll get the chance to embark on an action-packed white water rafting adventure. After a lesson from your professional guide, you’ll journey seven miles down the river across 30 class III and IV rapids. About halfway through the trip, we will take an on-shore break and enjoy some refreshing tropical fruit and a traditional Costa Rican lunch. At the end of your rafting journey, you’ll be transferred the rest of the way to your accommodation in San Jose for a well-earned rest.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your time in Costa Rica. It’s time to say goodbye. Upon checking out, take a local taxi back to Juan Santamaria International Airport for your flight back home. Until next time — we hope to see you again soon! Note: There is a lab at the airport where you can get COVID-19 rapid test results in less than an hour. Make your appointment via this link.
