Get ready to travel from Vegas to San Francisco via the most scenic route of all! Our Death Valley experience includes desert, dunes, salt plains and gold rush history, before a two-day stay in the beautiful Yosemite National Park. En route to the park you’ll travel on California’s highest mountain pass — the Tioga — and then hike through some of the country’s most fabulous scenery. Fully rejuvenated, you’ll end your adventure with a full-day tour of San Francisco and all of its laid-back, picturesque charms.
Leaving the bright lights of Las Vegas behind, we’ll head straight for the hottest place on Earth: Death Valley. This region is famed for its deserts, sand dunes and salt flats, but you’ll also find oases, historic sites and filming locations used in the likes of Star Wars and Spartacus. Here you’ll enjoy a guided tour, with short hikes around Zabriskie Point, Artist’s Palette, Badwater Basin Salt flats, Furnace Creek Visitor Center, Devil’s Golf Course and the Mesquite Sand Dunes. Cool off over lunch and we’ll head to the old gold rush town of Bishop — the community sprang up from nowhere following a gold find in the mid-19th century and today it remains a living piece of history. Bed down in Bishop and recharge your batteries for an unforgettable day ahead.
Prepare yourself to traverse California’s highest pass: the Tioga. This mountain road skips the valleys for the heights and is inaccessible in winter due to the heavy snow. At 3,031 meters, it’s a thrill to cross, and you’ll pass by the likes of Olmsted Point, Lake Tenaya, Tuolumne Meadows and Mono Lake en route. Yosemite lies ahead, and once there, you’ll get an introduction to this amazing area with a visit to the Valley Visitor Center and exhibits. This open space has been protected as a national park for over 100 years, preserving its ecosystem, waterfalls, mountains and giant trees. It’s long been a hiking and climbers paradise, and tomorrow you’ll become properly acquainted!
Strap on your best hiking boots and stretch those limbs — you’ll have a full day to explore the beauty of Yosemite. Situated in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, almost 95 percent of Yosemite is legally classed as wilderness, making it one of America’s premium unspoilt places and an outdoor playground par excellence. The park itself has countless walks to suit all tastes and lengths, or you can opt for a guided tour and see some of the area’s best sights such as Bridalveil and Lower Yosemite Falls, plus views of Half Dome and El Capitan. There’ll also be plenty of time to unwind and relax along the Merced River.
Wave goodbye to the Yosemite wilderness and prepare yourself for a different kind of tour as we reach San Francisco. One of America’s most iconic places, the country’s 13th-largest city is known for its Golden Gate Bridge and creative culture. With plenty of time left on your adventure, you’ll enjoy a fully-guided tour, taking in Haight-Ashbury, Pier 39, and Fisherman’s Wharf — not forgetting the mighty bridge itself of course! Take some time to relax over coffee, introduce yourself to the friendly locals and soak up the vibes in this unique part of America. Come 5 pm, it’s time to say goodbye to your tour companions, but don’t despair — you’ll have memories to last a lifetime.
After a day in Death Valley, we’ll head to Brown’s Campground featuring stunning views of the mountains, the running waters of the creek, and the space we need to rest and relax. The site offers electricity, water, restrooms with hot showers, and laundry if need be. We’ll cook up a great meal and get ready for the next park! If you'd like a hotel option, click here. Room type: Two-person tents; solo travelers will be paired with a tent partner of the same gender.
Indian Flat is the closet campsite to Yosemite, as it’s nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. We’ll call this beautiful place home for two nights and set up camp under the stars. The site offers restrooms with showers, access to an outdoor pool, and a gift shop. We’ll cook up our last meals here and toast to a stellar adventure! If you'd like a hotel option, click here. Room type: Two-person tents; solo travelers will be paired with a tent partner of the same gender.
