Rise and shine! Indulge in a hearty breakfast this morning — you’re in for an exhilarating adventure today. It’s off towards Puerto Viejo we go! Before that, we’ll stop at the breathtaking Pacuare River and embark on a splash-tastic rafting expedition down multiple class III and IV rapids. Considered one of the best places in the world for whitewater rafting, this stunning river winds through the heart of Costa Rica’s most verdant jungles and flows right into the Caribbean Sea. You will have the chance to fuel up with some lunch halfway through the activity. Once you’ve completed your rafting adventure, we’ll continue to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (known simply as “Puerto Viejo” to the locals) located on the laid-back Caribbean coast, where you can check into your accommodation for a well-deserved rest. Tomorrow, you’ll be able to enjoy Puerto Viejo and its beautiful beaches to the max!

Open your eyes to beautiful Puerto Viejo! This vibrant and charming seaside town is one of the country’s best-kept secrets, with golden beaches, swaying palm trees, crystal-clear waters, and a relaxed atmosphere making it a truly idyllic place where you can leave your worries far behind. This is also where the legendary Salsa Brava reef break — the most powerful surf spot in the country! — is located. It’s not hard to see why this town has become so popular with the young and the adventurous. Spend your time doing whatever you like today. Explore Puerto Viejo and its beautiful surroundings, discover the area’s many beaches (Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Playa Negra… you have plenty to check out), or sign up for some great activities (see optional add-ons section below). Today, we return to San Jose, but we don’t have to say goodbye to Puerto Viejo just yet! You have a few free hours in the morning to tick off any last-minute bucket list activities in town. Need more beach selfies? This is the time to do it. Once we leave the Caribbean coast and head back to the city, you won’t have another chance!
