Mexico welcomes you with open arms! Upon your arrival at Cancun International airport, you'll meet your driver and be transferred via comfortable private transportation directly to your accommodation in Tulum. Tulum is a spectacular resort town on Mexico’s Caribbean coast that has held a fantastic reputation as one of the country’s hottest vacation destinations — we hope you’ve brought your sunscreen and sunglasses! Once you’re all checked in, you will have the entire day free to enjoy Tulum as you please. Discover the sights of this coastal town, famous for its imposing archeological site right by the sea, its many spectacular cenotes, and its collection of great restaurants.
This morning, discover the off-the-beaten-path community of Chemuyil, a small beachfront town with gorgeous white sand and shallow waters. A local guide will greet you with delicious local fruit and tell you all about your adventure today. You’ll visit multiple locations to discover the natural beauty of the area, including three different cenotes. A project made possible by five young people from the community of Chemuyil who seek to preserve the cenotes that were so important to their childhood, the initiative allows travelers to experience the same magic and become one with nature. Ride through the charming town of Chemuyil on a bicycle and visit cenotes of different shapes and sizes. First, you’ll explore “La Cuevita”, an enclosed cenote where your guide will tell you anecdotes and stories of the place. Next, you will ride to an open cenote to enjoy some relaxing moments surrounded by abundant nature. With some luck, you might even catch a glimpse of endemic birds of the Yucatan Peninsula. Your third cenote is yet another open cenote of spectacular beauty. All of these cenotes are part of a system fed by the largest underground river in the world.
After your bicycle tour, you’ll be taken to the ruins of Tulum to see one of the most famous archaeological sites in Mexico. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, your accompanying guide will tell you why these ruins played an important role in the maritime and terrestrial trade, as well as explain how it used to function as an astronomical observatory and a defense system for the Mayans. This ancient city sits in the middle of a type of mangrove ecosystem on a cliff facing the beautiful Caribbean Sea, making it a truly unique and spectacular place. From the archaeological site, you’ll have access to the Playa Ruinas (Ruins Beach). Don’t hesitate to jump in the refreshing waters for a swim here!
Today, you will visit the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka'an (“a place where the sky is born” in the Mayan language). Enjoy a light snack upon arriving at the Muyil community center before you start your eco-tour. Your first stop is the little-known and mysterious archaeological site of Muyil, accessible via an interpretive trail surrounded by jungle. Trek the depths of the jungle until you reach the edge of the Chunyaxche lagoon and its turquoise waters. Here, you’ll take a small boat and pass through a water channel flanked with mangroves. After arriving at a small dock, you’ll have the chance to jump into the slow river for a beautiful and relaxing experience surrounded completely by nature! Reconnect with Mother Earth as you float slowly through the channels and listen to the soft sounds of the local birds and the gentle current of the water. At the end of your tour, trek back to the community center where a traditional meal awaits you — the perfect way to end your wonderful excursion.
Today, you’ll get to explore the famous Mayan archeological site of Chichén Itzá with a private guide. Recently named one of the seven wonders of the modern world, this indigenous city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the iconic Temple of Kukulkán aka El Castillo. Discover the incredible history of the Mayan people and marvel at the architecture that tells a story of a powerful empire that reigned for over 600 years. There are 26 structures to explore including El Castillo, the Observatory, The Temple of The Warriors, and the Mayan Ball Court to name a few. The tour will end with an authentic Mexican lunch that will prepare you for your next stop on a day filled with adventure.
After lunch, your guide will take you to the Yokdzonot Cenote, a lesser-known sinkhole that offers a relaxing experience away from the other tour groups. This cenote was turned into an eco-tourism site in 2005 by a group of women from the town who wanted to help others experience the healing function of the turquoise waters. In the past, cenotes were the main water supply and a reason to develop cities and settlements in the surrounding areas. However, the Mayans also believed that these underground caves were connected to the gods and were deemed sacred spaces. Take a swim in this magical sanctuary and honor the history of the Mayan’s care for these natural places. You’ll leave feeling aligned and rejuvenated!
It’s your last morning in paradise. In this part of Mexico, you can experience some of the most beautiful sunrises, so we suggest you wake up early, sit on one of the beaches, and watch the dawn break across the horizon. After breakfast, you will have a free morning to relax. At the scheduled time, your private transportation will pick you up to take you to the airport for your flight back home! Hasta luego!
